About the Brand:
Aldo Cipullo was an Italian jewelry designer best known for his groundbreaking work with Cartier during the 1960s and 1970s. Born in Naples in 1935, Cipullo began his career in jewelry design at a young age, drawing inspiration from his family's tradition of goldsmithing.
In 1969, Cipullo joined Cartier's New York branch, where he introduced a series of iconic designs that would redefine contemporary jewelry. One of his most famous creations was the Cartier Love bracelet, introduced in 1969, which featured a distinctive screw motif and was intended to be locked onto the wearer's wrist as a symbol of eternal love.
Cipullo's designs were characterized by their bold simplicity and innovative use of materials. He often combined precious metals with unconventional materials like wood, leather, and enamel, creating pieces that were both luxurious and accessible.
Aside from the Love bracelet, Cipullo's other notable designs for Cartier included the Juste un Clou (Just a Nail) collection, which transformed everyday objects into works of art, and the Trinity ring, which featured three interlocking bands of different colored gold.
Cipullo's creations often challenged conventional notions of luxury and adornment. He believed that jewelry should be more than just decorative; it should convey meaning and evoke emotion. This philosophy resonated in his designs, which were bold, modern, and often infused with symbolism.
Cipullo's work reflected the cultural and social changes of the time, capturing the spirit of rebellion and individuality that defined the era. His pieces were embraced by celebrities, artists, and fashion icons, cementing his status as one of the most influential jewelry designers of his generation.
Though his career was tragically cut short by his untimely death in 1984, Aldo Cipullo's legacy lives on through his groundbreaking designs, which continue to inspire and captivate audiences around the world. His contributions to the world of jewelry design remain timeless and enduring, a testament to his creativity, vision, and enduring influence. His pieces for Cartier remain highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts alike.
