A magnificent example of Art Deco Egyptian Revival design, this early 20th century necklace captures the allure of ancient symbolism through impeccable craftsmanship and bold color. The centerpiece features a finely carved lapis lazuli plaque depicting an Egyptian figure, framed within an arched 14K gold pendant. The composition is accented with a winged motif and finished with five suspended strands of turquoise, lapis, and carnelian beads, representing vitality and protection — two key elements in Egyptian art.
The pendant measures 3 3/4 inches in length and 2 1/8 inches in width, suspended from a 28-inch enameled gold bar link chain, characteristic of 1920s craftsmanship. The clasp is stamped 14K, and the piece weighs 39.3 grams in total.
This necklace exemplifies the fascination with ancient civilizations that swept through jewelry design following the 1922 discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb. The pairing of lapis, turquoise, and carnelian — authentic to Egyptian palettes — highlights the meticulous detail and vibrant geometry that defined the height of the Art Deco era.
There is wear on this piece consistent with its age. The stone between the wings has been chipped. One of the prongs on the top holding the lapis has been damaged, making the center piece a bit loose - this can be repaired.
