2365 JROO
This vintage Navajo squash blossom necklace is a substantial handcrafted piece of Southwestern artistry, set with large natural turquoise stones in sterling silver. Each turquoise station is framed in a scalloped bezel and accented with traditional squash blossom elements, leading to an impressive naja pendant at the center. The naja is signed on the reverse with the initials RC and an additional NHMSS mark, consistent with Navajo silversmiths working during the 1970s to early 1980s. The necklace features handmade Navajo silver beads, often referred to as “Navajo pearls,” which display the natural patina expected from an older, well-preserved piece.
The necklace has a total weight of 255.7 grams, offering a commanding presence. It measures 27.5 inches in total length, while the naja pendant itself spans 4 1/8 inches across and 3.75 inches in length. The turquoise stones show variations in matrix and color that are characteristic of natural, hand-selected material frequently used in mid-century Southwestern jewelry.
This is an authentic and finely executed example of traditional Navajo silversmithing, notable for its scale, weight, and the quality of its turquoise. It reflects the craftsmanship and design aesthetic associated with the highly collected squash blossom necklaces of the 1970s era.
