An exceptional Italian Art Deco diamond bracelet by Annibale Cusi of Milan, dating to circa 1935 and created in platinum with an extraordinary combination of Asscher cut, baguette cut and transitional cut diamonds.
Boldly architectural and unmistakably Art Deco, the bracelet is centered by a striking Asscher cut diamond, distinguished by its square, cut-cornered outline and mesmerizing step faceting. The center stone is flanked by baguette cut diamonds and incorporated into an elaborate geometric plaque densely set with transitional cut diamonds.
The design continues around the wrist in an intricate arrangement of articulated geometric links, alternating rows of baguette cut diamonds with sections densely set with transitional cut diamonds. The juxtaposition of crisp step cut diamonds against the brilliance of the transitional cut diamonds creates wonderful contrast, depth and movement while maintaining the strong symmetry and streamlined geometry characteristic of the Art Deco period.
Despite its impressive width and substantial diamond coverage, the bracelet is beautifully articulated, allowing it to conform elegantly around the wrist. Its sophisticated construction and nearly uninterrupted diamond-set surface give the bracelet the appearance of a continuous ribbon of diamonds.
Of particular importance is the bracelet's Italian maker's hallmark, “20 MI,” identifying Annibale Cusi of Milan. The historical Milan registry records 20 MI to Annibale Cusi di Rinaldo Cusi, at Via Clerici 1, Milan, with the registration dated May 15, 1935; the business later continued as Cusi Gioiellieri.
The lozenge-shaped identification mark visible on the bracelet contains the maker's registration number 20, the period fascio symbol and the Milan province abbreviation MI, corresponding to the Italian hallmarking system introduced in 1934. This hallmark provides important evidence for the bracelet's Italian origin and period of manufacture.
A remarkable example of Italian Art Deco jewelry, combining important Milanese provenance, sophisticated craftsmanship and exceptional diamond presence. Its bold geometry, flexible construction and striking Asscher cut center make it both highly collectible and extraordinarily wearable.
