A Bulgari Monete necklace, featuring a tri-color 18k gold chain and three ancient Roman coins. The first coin is an antoninianus of Probus (Marcus Aurelius Probus, 276–282 AD), struck in a copper alloy. The second is an antoninianus of Tacitus (Marcus Claudius Tacitus, 275–276 AD), a highly sought-after coin because his reign lasted only about six months. Like those of Probus, Tacitus’s coins were made of billon, a copper-rich alloy originally finished with a silver wash. The third is an antoninianus of Aurelian (Lucius Domitius Aurelianus, 270–275 AD), a historically important coin associated with the emperor who defeated rival powers, reunited Rome, and introduced a major monetary reform.
