An exceptional vintage Bvlgari Serpenti “Scaglie” bracelet, dating to approximately the 1960s–1970s, crafted in 18K yellow gold with striking black-and-white enamel and diamond-set eyes.
Among Bvlgari’s most recognizable and enduring creations, the serpent has been part of the Roman house’s design vocabulary since the late 1940s. During the 1960s and 1970s, the motif evolved into some of Bvlgari’s most spectacular jewels: highly articulated serpents composed of individually formed and enameled scales, known as Scaglie.
This remarkable bracelet is a superb example of that celebrated tradition.
The serpent coils dramatically around the wrist, its flexible articulated body covered with individually formed scales decorated in glossy black and white enamel, each outlined by warm 18K yellow gold. The graphic pattern continues along the body and across the beautifully modeled serpent’s head, producing an extraordinary sense of movement and dimension.
Two marquise-shaped diamonds, bezel set in yellow gold, form the serpent’s mesmerizing eyes, while a delicate forked gold tongue completes its wonderfully expressive character.
The ingenious articulated construction allows the serpent to wrap naturally around the wrist while maintaining its sculptural form. Even the interior reveals the complexity of its construction, with polished yellow gold providing a striking contrast to the richly enameled exterior.
