Since 1847, Timeless Excellence has been Cartier's second name. The brand's story begins when Louis-François Cartier took over the workshop of his master, Adolphe Picard, in Paris. Even higher quality standards of the Cartier jewelry were set in 1902 by King George VII. That year Cartier made 27 tiaras for the coronation and was officially announced as the crown's jewels seller. The Cartier legacy endured through the generations, with each family member contributing to the brand's global success. However, in 1964, the Cartier family decided to sell the business. A pair of vintage Cartier Paris Nouvelle Vague Draperie tassel earrings from 1999, crafted in 18k gold and set with round diamonds. Each earring has a polished hemispherical dome with diamonds scattered across its surface. Three strands of small gold beads hang below, ending in larger gold spheres at staggered lengths.
Introduced in 1999, Paris Nouvelle Vague explored movement and fluidity in jewelry; the cascading bead strands make that idea easy to see in this pair.
