The legacy of Mauboussin dates back to 1827, a period marked by significant historical changes in France. Originally named Maison Noury, the company was led by Jean-Baptiste Noury. In 1880, Noury's nephew Georges Mauboussin started his journey with the firm as an apprentice, eventually becoming the company leader.
Mauboussi's success was challenged by such competitors as established companies Mellerio and Wièze, as well as emerging names like Cartier and Boucheron. In the Roaring Twenties, Mauboussin distinguished itself by incorporating unconventional materials like jade, shellac, and colored stones carved in India. This innovative approach garnered international acclaim with multiple prestigious awards. Celebrities adorned themselves with Maison's jewelry for high-end magazine photoshoots, elevating Mauboussin's reputation.
In 1936, Mauboussin joined forces with New York jeweler Trabert & Hoeffer, establishing stores across the United States. Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, and Paulette Godard became clients of Trabert & Hoeffer-Mauboussin.
During the 1950s, influential designer René Lacaze set jewelry trends, contributing to the widespread popularity of Mauboussin pieces.
