Van Cleef & Arpels onyx and diamond butterfly necklace crafted in 18K yellow gold, circa 2000s. The butterfly features polished onyx wings and a center set with a 0.08-carat round brilliant cut diamond. The butterfly measures 7/16 inch by 7/8 inch. The chain measures 16 inches and includes an additional jump ring for adjustable length. The necklace weighs 5.1 grams. Hallmarks include VCA, 18K, B4398x11, and 0,08. Includes the original pouch.
The dating of this piece is supported by the hallmark format, the modern chain construction with an integrated adjustment jump ring, and the clasp style, all of which correspond to Van Cleef & Arpels production from the early 2000s onward. The butterfly motif has long been part of the maison’s design language, symbolizing transformation and movement. In the early 2000s, VCA introduced updated butterfly creations pairing hardstones with diamond accents in clean, refined silhouettes, a direction reflected in this necklace’s design.
